My Review: Eden Pond Turmeric Curcumin – Is It A Good Choice?
It’s time to review Eden Pond Turmeric Curcumin, a supplement that is really popular on Amazon. That’s actually the reason why I wanted to give it a try, because popular stuff isn’t always the best. I’ve tried a lot of turmeric products, so I think I could tell if this one was better.
At first sight, it looks really affordable. $25 for 60 days isn’t really a bad deal. However, I got pretty confused by the ingredients. In my opinion, they’re not exactly what they should be. But I will explain it on the whole below.
I tried out this supplement myself so I can tell how it worked in my case.
Note: This review is based on my experience with this supplement, so it won’t necessarily agree with other reviews you find. I am not trying to praise/criticize the product or its company, I am simply telling my opinion about it.
So Let’s Get To The Review
Full Name: Turmeric Curcumin from Eden Pond
Quantity : 120 capsules
Best Actual Price: $24.99
Where I Bought It From: Ebay, but you can also find it on Amazon
Designed For: Inflammation. The label says it’s good for several health problems, but I’ll be referring to joint pain. So it could be effective for joint pain caused by inflammation. This problem appears in RA, PsA or chronic swelling.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend turmeric for osteoarthritis. In OA there’s little inflammation and mostly cartilage problems. Turmeric doesn’t do anything for cartilages, that’s why it won’t do so much in OA.
My Rating: 5 out of 10
Worth Buying?: Not really, in my opinion. It contains some pretty weak ingredients and a very weird combination. I know has a very good price, but I don’t think it can help a lot. In my case, it didn’t relieve my pain almost at all, which is why I wouldn’t really recommend it.
If you really want a turmeric supplement, I suggest you to choose one with bioperine and curcuminoides, as that is the best combination.
What I Liked About It
- One bottle lasts for 60 days normally, which is a pretty long time
- Quite affordable overall
- You only have to take 2 pills per day (they are really easy to swallow)
What I Didn’t Like About It
- It contains only one ingredient – turmeric curcumin, which is something I’ve never seen before. These are actually 2 different substances that should be written separately, together with their dose. Combining them into one ingredients is a pretty bad choice, in my opinion
- The dose is pretty low overall
- There’s no bioperine and no curcuminoides, which are both pretty essential
- I didn’t feel any major improvement in my pain after one month, so it didn’t work
The Ingredients – What It Has
If you read some of my other reviews, you may know that I care a lot about ingredients. In my opinion, they’re the #1 reason why some products work and some don’t.
Well, Eden Pond’s ingredient list kind of shocked me. It was also disappointing, but even more confusing. Instead of having 2 separate ingredients, as any supplement does, the label states “turmeric curcumin” together. Here’s what appears on the label:
– Turmeric Curcumin (1000 mg) – WHAT IS THIS?! Turmeric is the root powder, while curcumin is the extract from that powder. They are 2 different substances. That’s why it’s really weird to see them together, because most supplements state them as different ingredients. After all, they are different.
1000 mg is a decent dose for turmeric powder alone. But in this case, it’s the dose for the association, so I think it’s pretty low.
In my opinion, they should mention the percent of turmeric and the percent of curcumin from these 1000 mg. That would have been fair, if they wanted to write them together.
The Ingredients – What It Lacks
– Bioperine + Curcuminoides
To be honest, I’m not very satisfied with Eden Pond’s ingredients. Besides this weird association, there are no curcuminoides and no bioperine. I will explain later on why they’re so important, but it’s related to absorption.
Without bioperine, those 1000 mg won’t get absorbed completely. Maybe about 500 mg would get absorbed, or even less. That’s why I don’t recommend supplements without bioperine, unless they have really huge doses of curcumin. And 1000 mg isn’t really a huge dose, it’s not even pure curcumin.
Conclusion: The association between turmeric and curcumin in one ingredient is really weird. I don’t know much about the brand, but I don’t think they made a wise decision with this. I also don’t like that there’s no bioperine, which would increase absorption. And last but not least, there are no curcuminoides, which have the best anti-inflammatory effect.
So Eden Pond’s ingredient list is pretty confusing and also disappointing to me.
My Experience With This Supplement
My Joint Problems: I was suffering from RA for a long while and turmeric seemed to be the best solution. It was a great anti-inflammatory and it didn’t have the side effects of NSAIDs. So I’ve been trying lots of products based on this herb, and some helped me tremendously.
However, most of the supplements I tried turned out to be big failures. Some even cost me a lot of money and didn’t do anything major. But I continued to test things out, until I found the best one.
Eden Pond’s supplement didn’t seem like the thing I needed, mainly because of its weird ingredients. But I had to try it first, before I gave my verdict.
How It Worked: I took 2 pills per day for about 1 month and a bit. The bottle I had would last for 2 months normally, but I just stopped taking it because it wasn’t helping me much. In the first month, I can’t say I felt an improvement. It was like I wasn’t really taking anything.
The pain was worse in my hands, and I used to have flareups every 3-4 days. Well, while I was on this supplement, they didn’t get more rare. I would still get a very painful day once or twice a week, so that wasn’t really an improvement. My general pain wasn’t much better either.
I continued taking the pills for about a week, but I simply got bored. Somehow I was kind of expecting it not to work, because of the ingredients.
It didn’t have the right things inside, and products without bioperine didn’t really work for me in the past. But at least I tried. As I didn’t see any improvement, I just gave it up.
Eden Pond’s supplement didn’t really give me any side effects and the pills were easy to take. But as there was no improvement in over than one month, there was no point continuing the treatment, in my opinion.
Conclusion: When it comes to how it works, I wouldn’t recommend it. In my opinion, it’s pretty weak. There’s no bioperine and no curcuminoides. The turmeric+curcumin combination may have a high purity, but that doesn’t compensate. I’ve seen that myself, because it didn’t relieve my pain.
PRO #1 – 2 Pills Per Day
I really appreciate supplements that only require a few pills per day. Turmeric pills tend to be easy to swallow, that’s true. But even so, it’s not the same thing to take 2 or 6 pills per day. Believe me, there are supplements that require you 6 pills per day, which is really huge.
So Eden Pond’s supplement is really comfortable from this point of view. You only have to take 2 pills, either together or separately. I preferred to take them separately, but you can take them together if you wish.
Just like any other turmeric pills, these ones were made of gelatin so swallowing them wasn’t a problem.
What’s important to mention is that you should take them with plenty of water, after eating. I had a lot of stomach problems whenever I took turmeric before eating. And I’m not talking about one brand, but about most brands. That’s something specific for this herb, so make sure you only take it after the meal.
Other than that, 2 pills per day is an advantage, in my opinion.
PRO #2 – Pretty Cheap
To be honest, $25 for 120 pills doesn’t seem too expensive, does it? That’s something I really appreciate about Eden Pond’s supplement.
I know a lot of products that don’t contain anything special inside. However, they cost a lot more than they should – about $30-$35 per bottle. So even though Eden Pond’s product doesn’t have amazing ingredients, at least it’s not very expensive either.
$25 may not seem that cheap at first sight. But one bottle is enough for 2 months, so that would be somewhere about $12 per month. There are cheaper supplements, that’s true, but only a few. So from this point of view, I can’t really criticize Eden Pond’s product.
As I said before, I’m not satisfied with it at all and I wouldn’t recommend it. But the price is definitely not a downside, so I can’t say anything bad at this chapter.
CON #1 – No Bioperine
In my opinion, this is one of the major problems of this supplement. I could get over the bad association of turmeric+curcumin, but the lack of bioperine is something crucial.
If you’re not familiar with this substance, you should know that our body can’t absorb curcumin alone. It does absorb part of it, but usually it’s less than 50%. That’s why studies proved that bioperine, the extract of black pepper, can increase this absorption with up to 2000%.
That is definitely a huge difference. I have tried supplements with and without bioperine and I can always feel the difference. Products with bioperine work much better and much faster. On the other hand, I usually don’t feel any change from supplements without bioperine.
I’ve heard some people saying that bioperine can cause stomach problems. That’s true, but so can turmeric. And in reality, there are very few cases. So the chances are very very small.
So I don’t really recommend you any turmeric supplement without bioperine, because this is an essential ingredient for a proper absorption. That’s why Eden Pond’s product is far from a quality product, in my opinion.
CON #2 – No Curcuminoides
That’s another aspect I don’t really like about Eden Pond’s supplement.
Curcuminoides are actually the standardized extract of curcumin. As it’s an extract, it has a much better effect than curcumin itself. I don’t know a number, but it decreases inflammation much better and much faster.
Curcuminoides are actually my favorite ingredient from all this turmeric area, because my body reacts amazingly to it. Fortunately, a lot of supplements contain this extract so you can find it pretty easily.
However, I couldn’t really find it anywhere on Eden Pond’s label. So besides not having any bioperine, it also doesn’t contain the extract of curcumin, which is so important as an anti-inflammatory. Obviously, curcumin works without the extract too, but the effect won’t be as strong.
Maybe that explains why I didn’t feel any improvement in my pain while I was on these pills. I followed the dose, took 2 pills per day and still nothing changed. In my opinion, the lack of bioperine and curcuminoides are the best reasons.
CON #3 – Didn’t Work
Excluding all the problems this supplement has, there’s one thing that really matters. It did not help me almost at all. I don’t know if it was just me or not, but in my case it didn’t work.
I took the pills for more than one month and I didn’t get any relief. Considering that my pain would decrease with other supplements, I assume it wasn’t my fault.
So why did this happen? Well, in my opinion, it’s because of what the pills have inside. Don’t worry, they don’t contain any substance that could harm you. It’s only that they lack a lot of essential things, like bioperine, curcuminoides, even turmeric powder alone.
Yes, I already mentioned that I don’t like that turmeric + curcumin combination, I know. But I think it has to do with the bad effect of this supplement. Maybe if they mentioned the exact dose of turmeric and the exact dose of curcumin…
So I don’t really know what to say, but I was far from satisfied by Eden Pond’s supplement. I’m only talking about how it worked, so there’s no good things I could say about it.
My Final Verdict – Is It Worth Buying?
Short answer: Definitely not. It has a really good price, but its ingredients really disappointed me. Maybe that’s the reason why it didn’t relieve my pain almost at all in more than 1 month.
In my opinion, the company didn’t choose the right ingredients. They shouldn’t have associated turmeric with curcumin in one ingredient. These substances work great together, but I’ve never seen them as one ingredient. That’s why I didn’t really know what to believe about them.
Would I buy it again?: For sure I wouldn’t. I didn’t even finish the bottle I had, because I got bored not seeing any improvement. But if they change the formula and add some bioperine (at least), I might want to try it again. Just to see the difference, because I doubt it could relieve my pain considerably.
So if you really want to buy a good supplement, I advise you to try something with bioperine and curcuminoides. That’s the combination that makes miracles for my body, and I read lots of good reviews about it. There are a lot of supplements that contain these ingredients, but not all of them work the same.
I can give you a recommendation of something that really works, but whether you choose that or not, it’s up to you. Either way, make sure you choose something that is really worth your money.
