My Turmeric Plus Review – The #1 Supplement For Arthritis & Chronic Pain
It’s time for my Turmeric Plus review – a supplement that is my #1 recommendation for inflammation and chronic pain:
- ingredients with a very pure source
- way cheaper than most supplements
- it really decreased my pain and inflammation (better than 95% of the products I tried)
So honestly, if I had to use just one turmeric supplement for the rest of my life – it would probably be this one.
I’m an RA patient myself, and it’s the (cheapest) best supplement I found. That’s why it’s my top recommendation.
Note: This supplement recently changed its name in “Turmeric Curcumin Plus” . The product is exactly the same, nothing else changed – same price, ingredients and everything. So don’t worry, it has a slightly different name but it’s the same thing.
So Let’s Get To The Review
Full Name: Turmeric Plus from Vita Balance
Quantity : 60 capsules
Best Actual Price: $23.95 but you can get it for around $16 per bottle (I’ll tell you below how to do that)
Cheapest Place To Buy: TurmericPlus.net
Best For: Pain caused by inflammation. It’s my top recommendations for :
- rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis
- swollen joints
- simply chronic inflammation somewhere in your body
It’s the strongest anti-inflammatory among all herbs.
But if you have osteoarthritis or cartilage problems, it’s probably not going to do much because it basically treats inflammation. So I recommend this instead.
Worth The Price?: Definitely – because it’s the cheapest supplement that really decreased my pain.
That’s why it’s my top recommendation – because it works for real and it’s pretty affordable, compared to other supplements.
My Rating: 10.00/ 10.00 (It’s the only product I’ve rated that high)
How To Buy It Cheaper:
You can get it for $16 instead of $24. Here’s how I do it:
Use the code FIVE$61404893 to get 5% off. Then buy a larger package because:
- they will give you one extra bottle (for free)
- and about $10 off from the normal price
So according to my calculations, you end up paying $16 per bottle, which is super cheap.
What I Liked About It
- Contains the perfect 3 ingredients combination
- Really high doses
- Contains bioperine – which is essential for a good absorption
- I could see a small improvement after about 3 days
- Only 2 pills per day
- Pretty natural ingredients, judging after how it worked
- Also good for weight loss or high blood pressure (though I haven’t tried that myself, so I can’t tell)
- The cheapest turmeric supplement that relieved my pain that much
- It’s 100% legit
What I Didn’t Like About It
- Described as a “natural superfood” – not as a joint supplement (but it’s great for joints, believe me)
- Only available on the official website
- Shipping isn’t included (it costs around $5 in the US)
- Only ships in about 30 countries
Why It’s My #1 Recommendation For Inflammation:
Call me bias if you want – but after trying more than 100 turmeric supplements, this is one of the few that continues to provide a CONSTANT relief for me.
Here’s why I recommend it:
- one of the best at relieving pain
- very pure ingredients
- cheapest product that worked for me
My pain went from a 7 to a 2 in about 2 weeks. Very few supplements managed to do that in the last 15 years I lived with RA.
Now – there are some other good supplements, I can guarantee.
But most cost well over $40 per bottle – which I can’t afford paying.
That’s basically why I recommend Turmeric Plus among the others:
- it’s much cheaper
- it works just as good (or even a bit better – in my opinion)
So if you want something that reduces pain and inflammation and costs even $16 per bottle, that’s what you have to try.
My Experience With This Supplement
Before I Started: As I said before – I received Turmeric Plus from a friend. So I had nothing to lose trying it.
You have to take 2 capsules per day, one in the afternoon and the other one in the evening:
- I know that turmeric can produce nausea sometimes
- So it’s best to take any supplement after eating
My Initial Pain: My joint pain is caused by rheumatoid arthritis and it’s pretty bad. You can read more in my bio:
- About a 6 on average (on the pain scale)
- It’s worse in my hands (and sometimes in my elbows)
- It’s regularly keeping me away from regular activities.
- Herbal remedies do help me a bit, but not completely
Week 1: After about 3 days since I started the pills, I noticed a small difference.
Now – don’t imagine I woke up without any pain. That wasn’t the case at all.
- My pain had decreased a bit.
- I wasn’t sure if it was the placebo effect or not – but I felt a small improvement.
- In the 3rd morning, I noticed my hands weren’t as stiff as they used to be.
- Usually, my stiffness would last up to an hour (depending on what kind of day I had).
- This time it went away after about 45 minutes.
Now – I didn’t do anything special. I didn’t even apply any heat or ice packs, as I would sometimes. All I was taking at that time were these pills.
The Same Week: My stiffness continued to last less in the morning.
But what I really cared about was my pain. Well, it also seemed to get better. Slowly, but it was getting better.
In about a week, I had arrived from a 6 to a 5, which meant so much in terms of pain. That was a lot for me.
The Following Weeks
Week 2: After another week, my pain was visibly lower. So now I was convinced these pills were working. Here’s why:
#1. I wasn’t in constant pain anymore
Don’t imagine I was feeling perfect – this would mean these are miraculous pills, which they’re not:
- I had times when the pain was stronger
- but I also had times when it wasn’t even there
Compared to how I was before, that was a visible change.
#2. My pain got to a 2-3 overall
That may sound like a minor thing – but keep in mind that my pain was around a 6. There’s a really huge difference.
#3. My stiffness also got better
However, I still got up with stiff hands – no pills can’t reduce it completely.
But I only had to wait for a few minutes – so it would go away on its own.
As I said – this supplement isn’t really a miracle, but it’s super effective for this kind of pain.
Week 3: After the second week, my pain continued to stay that low:
- it was about a 2 – on the pain scale
- it didn’t bother me too much
Now – I was afraid that my body would get used to the pills. It happened to me in the past – and my pain came back at one point.
But fortunately – it never happened with this supplement.
My pain remained to about a 2, which was amazing for me.
Afterwards: Of all the turmeric products I tried – this one had some of the best effects.
- As long as I took the pills – my pain continued to stay low.
- My body didn’t start to tolerate the pills.
- So I never had to increase the dose or take more pills.
1. The Ingredients (9.75 out of 10)
At this point, there are about 1000 turmeric products on the market.
Only Amazon has about 200-300. So why did I choose Turmeric Plus, that’s not even too popular?
Here’s the thing:
- I received it from a friend – she had rheumatoid arthritis since her 20s
- She tried a lot of stuff
- In the last months she only used this supplement
- And yes, she was super excited about it
So that’s what made me give this thing a chance:
1. Turmeric Root (1200 mg) – this is probably the best herb for inflammation:
- decreases swelling and chronic pain
- protects your body from inflammatory molecules
- in terms of doses – anything over 1000 mg is good
2. Turmeric 95% Curcuminoides (100 mg) – that’s the ingredient that makes the difference:
- it’s the turmeric extract
- this is actually an extract of the powder itself
- so it’s a lot more effective than the powder, especially for inflammation (according to recent studies)
Besides – there’s no need for a high concentration, as for turmeric. 50 mg are usually enough.
2. Bioperine (10 mg) – this is an essential ingredient whenever you have turmeric:
- increases its absorption up to 2000%
- without bioperine – less than 50% of the turmeric is absorbed
- in this way, it’s eliminated immediately as you take it
Unfortunately, more than 50% of the turmeric supplements don’t contain bioperine – despite costing around $20.
Conclusion:
Turmeric Plus may not have the most sophisticated ingredients – but it has the perfect combination, in my opinion:
- Really good doses
- There’s bioperine for a great absorption
- There are also curcuminoides – which have a very strong effect for inflammation
Also, I believe the ingredients it uses are more pure than in other supplements.
Otherwise I can’t explain why these pills help me a lot more than others, which have very similar ingredients. So that’s a major reason why I recommend Turmeric Plus.
2. How It Works (10 out of 10)
I know there are so many turmeric supplements on the market. In fact, I tried so many that I even lost their count.
But what I wanted to point out is one thing. There are so many products with this combination of 3 ingredients:
- turmeric
- curcuminoides
- bioperine
So what makes Turmeric Plus better than all these? Why should you buy this one instead of others?
Maybe there are some cheaper ones, so why should you pay more on this one?
My Answer: In my opinion, it has more natural ingredients than the others.
At least that’s why I believe, because for me it works much faster.
- While I am on these pills, I can feel the difference in a couple of days
- With other products, it takes longer to see a change
- Also, many don’t have such an intense effect
As I said – this isn’t the only supplement that relieved my pain. Here you can find the whole list.
But as you can see there – most of the others cost about $40 or more (a monthly dose).
So I’m just using the cheapest version, that’s why I recommend Turmeric Plus and not the others.
It does pretty much the same thing but it’s a lot cheaper. For me that really matters.
3. What Else It Can Do (9.50 out of 10)
Most turmeric supplements I came across were designed for arthritis – or that’s what they claimed.
Well, according to Turmeric Plus’ website, you can also use it for 3 other things:
- to lose weight in a healthy manner
- for high blood pressure
- cognitive problems and headaches
In fact, many of the reviews I read were from people who weren’t arthritis patients.
They bought this product for other reasons – and most of them were very satisfied.
This is the reason why I was a bit reluctant before buying it:
- I didn’t find hundreds of reviews, as I could find in Amazon products
Now – I can’t give a verdict about weight loss or about blood pressure, because I didn’t have any of these problems.
But when it comes to joint pain, it was one of the best supplements. When it comes to this – I can fully recommend it.
So Turmeric Plus isn’t just anti-inflammatory, it has many other benefits. And I personally believe it has natural ingredients, just like its label says.
4. The Reason Why It Works Better
Turmeric Plus wasn’t the only supplement with this 3 ingredients combination. I’ve tried some others before:
- They had these same 3 ingredients
- They had pretty similar doses
However, none of them seemed to work so well. In fact, they weren’t even close.
So why did this supplement work that well? After all, they had the same substances inside.
Well, I have one theory: THEIR SOURCE.
I checked out the official website but I couldn’t find where their curcumin comes from.
They did mention it was organic – but I couldn’t find from where it was. Well, I think that’s the key:
- It probably has a more natural source
- It’s less processed.
As they are a smaller company (that’s what I think), it could be possible.
Larger companies produce such high amounts that they need huge quantities fast and cheap.
So in my opinion, that’s why many supplements with similar ingredients didn’t do anything for my pain.
I’m pretty sure about the superior quality of this supplement. It’s not something I’ve read anywhere, it’s just my personal belief.
My Final Verdict – It’s Definitely Worth A Shot
If there’s one turmeric supplement I really recommend – it’s surely Turmeric Plus.
It may not be a supplement designed specially for inflammation, but it’s one of the best ones on the market. This is the irony, if you ask me.
And I recommend it for real reasons:
- I could feel a small change after 3 days
- really good ingredients
- pretty cheap, compared to the rest
At almost $24 per bottle, it may not sound cheap.
But most supplements that worked cost over $40. So compared to that, it’s way cheaper.
Besides, you can get a larger pack, which has a pretty big discount (that’s why I usually do).
So you end up paying about $16 per bottle, which is really cheap. I also have a 5% OFF coupon, which you can also use.
And if that’s not enough to convince you, I will give you my facts:
- the pills started working much faster than others
- it also relieved my pain pretty deeply – from a 7 up to a 2
Going from a 7 to a 2 is a big deal, at least for someone as me. So this supplement is the best deal I found.
Maybe price isn’t a factor for you – but for me it’s something major.
That’s the cheapest product I found that works at such a high level. That’s why it’s my top recommendation.
If you decide to buy it, good for you. I’m so sure you will buy it the second time too.
I would have never heard about this thing if it wasn’t for your blog.
I’m a 49 yo white woman with a family history of rheumatoid arthritis. Despite trying to prevent it, I got the same diagnosis as my mom when I was 38. The pain was really impossible to take and I never thought I would ever be normal again.
I heard about turmeric long time before and tried lots of different combinations but I always had different reactions to any brand. At one point I got this terrible rash after taking some pills from Vimerson. So I even thought I was allergic to this ingredient and I was pretty much avoiding it.
So I found your review about one month ago and you really gave me new hopes, and that’s why I decided to try turmeric again. Even if it was for the last time. Well, I didn’t believe it but this time it really really helped me. Not only that I didn’t get any bad reaction, but in 2 weeks I was on my own again.
So I just bought another bottle to make sure I never run out of this thing. For me it was one of the few medicines that didn’t hurt me. Thanks a lot for recommending it, I’m totally into it now!
Hello McGenna, I’m so happy to hear this. I tried lots of different turmeric supplements, but I haven’t found any as this one.
It’s great to hear that it took away all of your pain. I couldn’t find many real reviews about it, so I didn’t have any other opinion to count on. But this thing was the best at treating my pain, so I had to be honest and recommend it as my #1 choice. That’s why I’m so thrilled to hear that it didn’t only make miracles for me, but for you as well.
Thanks a lot for sharing your opinion about this supplement!
Really honest review!
I’ve been using this thing for about 5 months now and I don’t want to go back to anything else. I got fibromyalgia after having a car accident followed my multiple surgeries in my both of my shoulders. It’s been a long time and no product with turmeric gave me real hopes that I could go back to my previous life again.
I tried Turmeric Plus after seeing an ad on my FB page. I bought one bottle at first but I’ve been ordering 3 ever since. You only talked about RA in your review, but I want to say that it’s really great for fibromyalgia (aka chronic pain) too.
So you’re not the only one that sees this thing as the best. Totally recommend it!!!
Hey Holly, thanks for your opinion, it’s great to hear this.
I had no idea whether it was good or not for fibromyalgia. It has some ingredients that should work for FM as well, but I never tried it for that so I couldn’t tell. I knew it worked for chronic pain, so on paper it should be good for FM too. But thanks a lot for clarifying things.
So at this point, I’m starting to believe it works for almost every kind of pain. 🙂
Hi, thanks for the detailed review. Although you have a relationship with the company I like that you are very transparent about it and it does appear from the all the research and reviews you’ve compiled that you are truthful in your rec. With so many Turmeric brands and reviews it’s tough to sift through the good and bad.
Though we (my wife for joint pain and me for intestinal inflamamtion) just started taking the Bio Schwartz brand (where I came across your review), I’m giving the Turmeric plus a shot when we finish it. I just bought the 4 pack which was buy 3 get 1 at that came to $65 with your discount. That’s a no brainer at $16.25 a btl. Thank you for the discount code.
Hey there, I’m trying to give the best info about each product. So I want the readers to know both the good and the bad about something before they make a purchase. I think that’s fair.
I’m really curious how the BioSchwartz turmeric works for you. It’s not a bad product at all, it has some really good ingredients but for me it simply didn’t work as expected. I saw it has several positive reviews, but in my case it wasn’t that effective as I had hoped. That’s why I’d like to hear your experience in the future, if that’s okay to you.
Yes, Turmeric Plus is pretty cheap, that’s one of the main reasons why I recommend it instead of others. For me it worked, so once you and your wife start it out, let me know what you think about it.
Loved it! I was skeptical at first and bought only one bottle, but then came back buying the pack of 4. At these money, it’s so worth it! I’m only gonna use this brand from now on, but I’ll only get the pack of 4. I’m saving a lot more than if I bought an Amazon brand.
Thumbs up for this turmeric, and for you giving out a coupon code. Really appreciate it!
Hello Jim, it’s my pleasure to be of use! It’s great to hear you liked Turmeric Plus. You didn’t mention if it decreased your joint pain, but I imagine it did, considering you liked it.
You’re totally right, the pack of 4 is a lot cheaper overall, even compared to most Amazon brands. The biggest part of them cost about $20-$25 per bottle and they don’t have such good ingredients. If you buy several bottles, they won’t give you any discount, so overall you end up paying a lot more.
I personally didn’t try Turmeric Plus at first because of its price. But after a while, I realized it’s a lot cheaper than most, so right now that’s the main reason why I use and recommend it. Yeah, obviously, I do it because it really helped me out, and a lot. But price is also important, and it’s really a bargain for what it does.
Thanks for letting me know your thoughts.
Is there any reactions to different phriscription meds?
Hi. From what I know it can interact with blood clotting drugs, because it also has some weak blood thinning proprieties.
If you’re taking blood thinning drugs (like aspirin), you may ask a doctor, but I believe it’s better to stay away from turmeric. From what I read, there are small chances that something happens, but you never know. So it’s better to stay safe.
Other than that, turmeric can also lower blood sugar (though it has a pretty weak effect). So I don’t really recommend it if you’re taking diabetes drugs. The label always recommends asking a doctor if you have diabetes, but I kind of think it’s better to stay away from it. If you really want to give it a try, then yeah, ask a doctor first.
I didn’t really have any problems with turmeric, but I don’t have diabetes or blood problems. So I can only tell you what I read about turmeric’s interactions, nothing from my experience. Hope this helps.
Heather, it says to take in empty stomach but you stated you take it after eating? Also, can I take two pills at once rather than space then out? I have my first bother and want to make sure I’m taking them correctly. Thanks!
Hi Susan. Yeah, I think it’s better to take it after eating. That’s what I do and it works great.
I had stomach problems a lot of times when I took turmeric before the meal. It was the same whether I was taking powder or supplements. So that’s why I prefer to take any form of turmeric after eating.
Nausea and stomach problems are a common side effect of this herb, and I’ve seen that you can prevent that by taking it after eating. The anti-inflammatory effect is totally the same, that’s what I noticed.
Now, you may not have the same problems as I do, so you could try taking the pills before eating. If you don’t have any problem, it’s perfect. But if you do, simply take them after food and you should be fine.
Regarding the dose, yeah you can take 2 together. I prefer to take them separately, but taking them together should have the same effect. So try this and let me know how it goes.
Thank you Heather for your quick response. Sorry for the spelling errors, autocorrect. Thank you for your blog, keep up the great work!
I like turmeric, this particular supplement is really good. It causes me no stomach pain like others did. Thank you for your recommendation, someone else I know also used it and is a regular customer now.
I will be moving to UK in some weeks, is there any chance I can buy it there? I saw the UK isn’t included on their list of delivery. Do you know if I can find it in any shops? if not I will buy more bottles here and I will take it with me. There’s a christmas sale right now.
Hi Tito, it’s great to hear it helps you. You’re pretty right, from what I know they don’t ship in the UK (I have no idea why, but I think it’s something related to custom issues).
I also tried to find Turmeric Plus in different shops, but they don’t seem to sell it anywhere else than online. I even contacted their support and they said that at that time, you could only buy it online. So I don’t think that anything changed in the meantime.
I think the best way would be to buy a few extra bottles from here and then take them with you. If you have any friend or family left in the US, they could buy it and ship it in the UK for you. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s any other solution right now.
Hope this helps.
Hi
I have been using Terry Naturally 75o Curamed and it has changed my quality of life with foot arthritis. Before using this I was in constant pain. Wondering if you have tried this? Want to try Turmeric Plus as it is much cheaper but a little afraid that it won’t be as effective.
Hi Barbara. Yes I know Curamed, I tried it myself and I was really satisfied in terms of how it works (you can find the review here).
It’s a supplement I would normally recommend, but I agree with you that it’s very expensive. At least I couldn’t really afford to buy it monthly.
For me Turmeric Plus works just as well, or maybe even a bit better. I know it doesn’t have such an amazing ingredient as the BCM-95 Curcumin, but it has bioperine, which compensates for the absorption issues.
I think you should give it a try. You can buy one bottle first, just to see how it works. If you don’t like it, you can get back to Curamed. Also, if you need some other options, you can check my article about the best turmeric products I tried overall (though most that are good are pretty expensive too 🙁 ).
Let me know if I can give you any other advice.
ready to try it
Hi Nancy, let me know how it works for you.
Hi Heater.
I’m 47 years old and I train horses for most of my life. So I have wear and tear on my joints…
I’m thinking to start taking joint supplements because I have more discomfort on morning and at night. Do you think I can combine Projoint plus with Turmeric plus ? Because I think I have both inflammation and cartilage issues.
Thank you
Galina
Hey Galina, of course you can. But I would advise you to start just with ProJoint Plus, see how it goes and only then start Turmeric Plus as well. Here’s why:
– ProJoint Plus also contains some anti-inflammatory substances
– their doses aren’t very high, but they could be enough for you
From your description, you surely have cartilage problems. But inflammation may or may not exist. And if it exists, it’s probably not a major one – since you don’t have rheumatoid arthritis or swollen joints (you didn’t mention this).
So the dose of turmeric from ProJoint Plus might be enough. But obviously, the best way to see this is to try it.
That’s why I advise you to start with it for now. There’s no point spending extra money and taking more pills than you need. Take ProJoint Plus for at least 1 month and see how it goes. If you’re still in pain after this time, then you can start Turmeric Plus too.
Obviously, if you want to combine them from the start – there’s no problem medically speaking. But I told you what I would do.
If you have any other question, please let me know. Hope this helps.
I am 77 years old. I have RA and OA. I take LDN (low dose naltrexone) it works for RA: almost no pain in my hands and shoulders. Because of my OA I have a terrible pain and stiffness in my right knee. I am unable to stand even a short time and walk only a very short distance. I also take some supplements: turmeric with black pepper, selenium, boswellia, vitC, vitD, flax seed oil. All of them from Swanson. I will appreciate your advising me about my treatment. Sincerely.
Hello Dolli. So from what I understand, your RA is well controlled by the treatment. It’s your OA that’s making your problems.
Out of these supplements you’re taking, I noticed there isn’t any for OA. Turmeric, Boswellia, Flax Seed Oil are all meant to decrease inflammation – so they work best for RA. There is indeed some inflammation in OA, but it’s minor.
So what is actually causing the pain in OA is cartilage loss/damage – THAT’S WHAT YOU NEED TO TREAT.
Now – the best thing you can take in OA are glucosamine + chondroitin. These 2 substances are the best at rebuilding cartilages and improving joint flexibility.
So a glucosamine + chondroitin supplement will rebuild your cartilages, decrease your pain and stiffness.
I recommend you to choose a product with glucosamine sulfate (not HCl) – because this form is stronger and has more studies behind (with positive results). As for chondroitin – it comes as sulfate in 99% supplements, so it’s fine.
My top recommendation for you is ProJoint Plus, as it’s the best supplement for OA that I tried. In my case, the pain started getting a bit better in less than a week – but it really depends from person to person, so it might need several weeks to work for others.
I recommend this product because it also improved my mobility, besides the pain. However, it usually takes at least one month until you see results at this chapter. That’s because flexibility improves once you have more cartilage – and no substance can rebuild cartilage overnight (or in a few days).
So overall, I advise you to try this supplement because it’s good and it’s also pretty cheap (compared to others I tried).
However, in case you want a wider range to choose from – here are the best glucosamine supplements I used overall. So you can pick the one that suits your budget best.
Besides supplements, there are also some other alternative remedies you can use:
– try to consume lots of fresh foods and antioxidants
– apply a hot bottle on your joints whenever they get stiff (it will make it go away faster)
– use an essential oil to massage your painful spot – this will loosen up the joints
I also have an article that sums up the advice I gave you. It focuses on treating osteoarthritis naturally – using supplements, herbs and joint pain hacks. So it could also help you.
Regarding your RA – I wouldn’t recommend you anything else. If LDN and the supplements you use are helpful, there’s no point switching to anything else. I surely wouldn’t.
Hope this advice helps. In case you didn’t understand something or you have any other questions, please get back to me.
Hello Heather. Please accept my deep appreciation for your respond and detailed recommendations. One more question: is it OK for my condition to take ProJoint and in addition to it Hyaluronic acid and some more turmeric? Sincerely . Dolli.
Hi again Dolli. You can combine ProJoint Plus with other supplements, because it contains mostly natural/herbal extracts, so there are minor risks of interactions. I personally associate ProJoint Plus with turmeric and I never had any problem.
I know about turmeric that it can sometimes interact with blood thinning drugs, but that’s all. And I don’t think you’re taking this kind of drugs, so you should be fine.
Regarding Hyaluronic acid, from what I know – it’s not very effective when taken by mouth. You need a pretty high dose (around 200 mg) and most supplements contain under 20 mg. Instead, I know it had great results when injected directly (as shots).
Now – I don’t know how you plan to take it. It will surely not hurt you either way, but if you take a low dose by mouth, it will probably be useless.
thanks for info, will give the turmeric with BioPerine a try
Hi David, let me know how it works for you.
Hi There Heather…I am on my second round, essentially just starting my fourth month. I have not seen a consistently significant improvement in the flare-ups of swelling behind my knee or the pain associated with it that runs down my calf. I have osteoarthritis in both knees, have clicking at times in various places from knees to ankles, and meniscus tears in the knee with the flare-ups. I am not yet bone on bone, thankfully, and I am trying to contain the problem so as to avoid a knee replacement since I am a really bad candidate for that because of all my bone, ligament, cartilage surgeries on various parts of my body over the past. What are your thoughts on taking Pro Joint Plus alone or in conjunction with the Turmeric compound given my issues? Welcome any specific info you can provide. BTW, I had scoped out the Heal N Soothe product and I have been offered a free bottle no strings attached but suspect not worth trying, and concerned about possible side effects after reading the reviews. Finally, so you know, I am 74 and take no meds at all, just supplements. My issues are gastro (ibs coupled with severe diverticulosis–an 8 year battle) and bone, ligament, cartilage problems. Hope to hear. Thanks, Marilyn
Hi Marilyn.
First of all – if you have OA, your pain is caused by cartilage damage. You say you also have some inflammation, but that’s just a consequence of your damaged cartilages (which get swollen due to the damage).
Now – Turmeric Plus (and any other product based on turmeric) is meant to decrease inflammatory pain. It surely helps the inflammation from your knees, but it does nothing for the cartilage damage (simply because it’s not effective for that). Since you only have some inflammation in your knees, most of the pain doesn’t decrease after taking turmeric.
So what you actually need is a product that rebuilds damaged cartilages – glucosamine + chondroitin. These substances are actually the best thing for osteoarthritis, because they can make your body produce more cartilage and repair the damaged one. Obviously, this doesn’t happen overnight – you need a few months at least, especially if you have little cartilage left.
But fortunately, that’s not your case (since you said you’re not bone on bone). So I advise you to start using a glucosamine supplement with over 1000 mg of glucosamine.
Now let’s get to your questions.
1. There shouldn’t be any interactions between turmeric and glucosamine supplements. I’m speaking in general, not only about Turmeric and ProJoint Plus. Turmeric interacts with blood thinners, but you didn’t mention anything so you’re probably not taking this kind of drugs. Other than that, it’s pretty safe with everything.
However – I personally wouldn’t take them both. ProJoint Plus requires 3 pills per day and Turmeric Plus 2, so that’s already 5 pills – which is a lot. In case you would have to take any prescribed treatment besides, that would be even more. So I want you to avoid taking lots of pills per day, that’s the point.
So if turmeric doesn’t help you so much, try giving it up for a while. Instead, take ProJoint Plus or any glucosamine supplement for 1-2 months and see what it happens. Normally, you should see a bigger change than with turmeric, because glucosamine is meant to help OA and cartilage problems (and turmeric isn’t).
2. Regarding Heal N Soothe, it’s pretty similar to turmeric. It contains mostly anti-inflammatory herbs – so it’s more effective for inflammatory pain (as in rheumatoid arthritis). So I personally think it wouldn’t help more than Turmeric Plus.
I did experience a side effect while taking Heal N Soothe, but I’m not claiming it’s the same for everyone. However, I also found several complaints about side effects while reading other reviews, so they are possible.
For this reason, I don’t think it’s worth taking Heal N Soothe right now. As I said, I don’t think it could help more than Turmeric Plus (since it’s designed for the same kind of problem).
Summing up, my advice is to give up turmeric pills right now and go for a product with at least 1000 mg of glucosamine sulfate. Make sure it also has chondroitin and MSM. ProJoint Plus is a great choice and there are some others (see the link above). Heal N Soothe is not worth taking, in my opinion – because it does about the same as turmeric. And in your case, inflammation isn’t the #1 problem – it’s cartilage damage, which only glucosamine can help.
I’m not sure if you understood well enough what I meant. But if something isn’t clear, just reply to this comment and I will get back to you.
I bought another brand of of Tumeric Curcumin and then I started looking for reviews and I came across yours. This is the Best blog I have found and not only am I going to order Tumeric Plus but also ProJoint Plus. I was always active and really could not understand what was happening to me as far as flexibility and mobility, my pain is a 10 and I have been dealing with it for over a year.I started Hemp Oil…I give that a 2 rating. If this helps believe me I will let everyone know.
Hi Olivia, I’m really happy you enjoyed reading my articles. You didn’t really mention what kind of arthritis or joint pain you have, is it in your knees, hands, hips, etc? You said it was a 10 – but does this mean it’s really bad? The scale I use starts from 1 (mildest) to 10 (worst). So I really hope your pain isn’t that terrible. Anyways – if you problems with flexibility, you might have some cartilage damage. Glucosamine and chondroitin work best for that, so ProJoint Plus should be helpful. But if you want to get turmeric as well, it’s totally fine, I don’t know too much about your pain – so if you also have some inflammation, it will surely help.
Thanks for your kind words.
Hello
I have a question regarding turmericplus product!
is that aloud to use this product during pregnancy or during nursing?
Thanks
Hi Helen, I wouldn’t recommend absolutely any supplement during pregnancy or breastfeeding. This is a very sensitive period and 99% of the supplements don’t have pregnancy studies behind. Even though they might be safe, I would recommend avoiding all of them. Only take a drug/supplement that is a must and that your doctor recommended.
You can use Turmeric Plus or another supplement once you stop breastfeeding, if that’s the case.
I have Ulcerative Colitis — taking Remicade Infusion every 8 weeks. My friend suggested me to take TURMERIC Supplements 1000 mg everyday , Will it effect my Colon .
Please advice
Hi Neha. As far as I have read and looked into, turmeric can be helpful in ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease. This herb is great for anything that involves inflammation and swelling, and these are the actual cause behind colitis. There are a few studies with positive results behind, but they’re too few to reach any clear conclusions. Anyway, you can find an essential study here.
1000 mg is actually a great dosage when it comes to turmeric. I don’t know if you already have a preferred supplement – but if you don’t, here are some of my top recommendations. Now, turmeric shouldn’t cause you any serious side effects when it comes to colon. It can sometimes cause diarrhea, but that’s pretty rare (usually when you take a very high dosage of curcuminoids – over 500 mg). So my advice is not to worry about this and give turmeric a try, since it can really help your inflammation.
Hope this helps.
The instructions say to take “You should take 2 capsules of Turmeric Curcumin Plus once daily with a meal. For best results take 20-30 minutes before a meal or as directed by your healthcare professional.” I take this to mean you take both capsules with a single meal, not 1 capsule with 2 different meals as you have indicated. So I called them and they confirmed my interpretation and indicated no preference for which meal. Also, they recommend taking this product before a meal and could not say if the effectiveness was reduced by taking after a meal. Obviously, you have benefits from taking it after, but maybe it could be even better if taken before. Or, is it possible you don’t really take this? Thanks, Mark.
Hi Mark. I know the label recommends taking the pills before the meal, but I always recommend taking turmeric pills after eating. That’s because this herb tends to cause stomach cramps – and that’s available for every supplement containing turmeric. I experienced stomach pain with many products. And in most cases, once I started taking them after the meal, the cramps didn’t appear again. So I pretty much think this is the secret (I also read some doctor’s recommendations and he said the same thing).
So the anti-inflammatory effect of turmeric is the same whether you take it before or after food. But the rate of its side effects decreases if you take it after food. That’s pretty much the point.
As for the number of pills you take – this also depends on you. I prefer taking one pill twice a day than 2 pills once. It’s easier to swallow and the effect is supposed to be more durable on paper. But I think the anti-inflammatory effect is about the same no matter how you take it.
I really hope this clarifies your doubts.
Thanks – I just thought your readers should know that your recommendations differ from the manufacturer’s and wondered if maybe the instructions changed with the repackaging of the product. I really appreciate your reviews. I am curious about the “effect is supposed to be more durable on paper” in that I don’t know why they would recommend taking both pills at one time vs one twice a day if that makes it less efficacious. If you have a link handy regarding that “durability”, I’d be interested. Thanks again, Mark.
Hey again Mark, thanks for your reply.
Let me clarify what I meant by “the effect is supposed to be more durable on paper”. It was a way of saying your body gets a constant dosage for a longer period. For this reason, taking 1 pills in the morning and 1 in the evening would help your body have a constant quantity of turmeric for the whole day. Whereas if you take 2 pills in the morning, the effect is going to be stronger then and it will decrease a bit in the evening. The situation would repeat in the next morning.
But I know many brands recommend taking both pills at once (because it’s simpler for the user). So I’m not sure if the period you take the pills really matters – I only gave you the recommendations I was taught throughout the years and the ones I also follow. I don’t know if there’s any clinical evidence or not, so I can’t give you any link.
Point is – just make sure you take the recommended quantity, depending on the period when it’s easier for you. I hope this helps.
It does, thanks again for your thoughtful reply.
Anytime!
Great review! I’m planning on buying this, my cousin is using it and he’s very satisfied. I had a broken leg and my knee has been hurting ever since, I’m taking my prescription but doctor also recommended turmeric and my cousin says I should really try this.
Hi Flo. If your knee has a chronic swelling inside, turmeric should really help, as it has a great anti-inflammatory effect. So I personally believe it should help you, as any other quality turmeric supplement would. But in terms of quality/price, Vita Balance’s Turmeric Plus is definitely the best choice, so I strongly recommend you to go for it. I would love to hear your feedback about it later on. Best wishes!
Hi Heather, I have low back pain( failed back surgery). I am now having pain in my right knee, diagnosed as slight bone on bone and OA. Now the pain is affecting my right hip. My pain is usually at 6-7 daily. I have tried stem cells, acupuncture, massage, PT , Chiropractic, numerous supplements, rubs, patches, you name it. I tried Heal n Soothe, but haven’t noticed much relief. I also take CAL-D, that seems to help the joint pain a little. I am desperate to get my pain under control. I loosing hope.
Hi Esther, I’m sorry to hear about all the issues you’ve been going through and that you’re in such big pain. First of all, since you already have a diagnosis of osteoarthritis in your knee, this problem might also affect your hip. So the cause behind your pain is osteoarthritis, if you ask me. I don’t know what supplements you’ve been trying, but the best kind of products you can use are glucosamine & chondroitin supplements. These 2 substances are the best when it comes repairing and re-building damaged cartilages. Since your cartilages are damaged, that’s the kind of remedy you need right now.
When it comes to Heal-N-Soothe, this product is mostly designed for inflammatory pain. Your joints are also swollen, but this is not the main cause behind your pain. So even though Heal-N-Soothe and other anti-inflammatory supplements can help partially, they will never treat the cause (as glucosamine + chondroitin supplements do). That’s why I recommend the last ones. The best glucosamine supplement I know is ProJoint Plus, it has the best formula for the lowest price among all supplements of this kind I know. So I strongly recommend going for it. You can also follow this guide on treating OA naturally, the tips there might help you in the long run.
Also, hot bottles or heating pads can be really helpful against stiffness, especially if you live in a humid area (rain and humidity tend to worsen pain and arthritis). I really hope this helps you!
I started taking a turmeric supplement about a month ago because my sciatic nerve pain was beginning to ratchet up, and I was nearing a point where I would need another steroid spinal epidural injection. I asked the doctor who gives me the injection about turmeric, and he was all in favor of me trying it. I bought Kroger brand “Simple Truth” “Turmeric Extract Curcumin C3 Complex” which is 1160 mg tumeric extract standardized to 95% curcuminoids (1102 mg). The black pepper (BioPerine) is 5 mg. Two capsules per day. Price $15.00 for a month’s supply. That started giving me some pain relief in a few days. I then saw your web site, and decided to try a bottle of Turmeric Plus for comparison. I haven’t noticed a big difference between the two. I used the Turmeric Plus for about a week, so not a long trial. I’m nearly through with the “Simple Truth” brand, and will then switch back to the Turmeric Plus and finish it out.
I now have hardly any pain, and moved my scheduled steroid injection out a month. If this continues to work, I’ll cancel my steroid injection altogether.
I’m wondering what the difference in effect is between 5 mg (Simple Truth) and 10 mg (Turmeric Plus) BioPerine is for absorption efficiency. Your thoughts on 5 mg vs 10 mg BioPerine, and have you looked at the “Simple Truth” product?
Thanks for your great web site, and your valuable information.
Hi Tim, thanks a lot for your very detailed feedback. I haven’t tried Simple Truth’s product but from what you say, the dose of turmeric extract seems to be quite high. I usually prefer products that have between 100-200 mg of turmeric extract because the higher this dose, the higher the risk of side effects (especially digestive ones). So Simple Truth’s supplement is more concentrated and consequently, it has a higher risk of side effects.
As for your question, BioPerine is designed to increase the absorption of curcumin, it doesn’t have an actual effect itself. Now, both 5 and 10 mg are some good doses because they are on the safe side (anything above 15 mg can be dangerous). Since Simple Truth’s supplement contains a higher dose of turmeric extract (curcumin), it should also have a higher dose of BioPerine, but that’s not really the case.
So the comparison between 5 and 10 mg of BioPerine isn’t too relevant, because BioPerine doesn’t have an active effect in these supplements.
Hope this helps.
